706 PTO problems

Hello all, my 706 pto has been giving me touble trying to get it engaged. It usually takes a few cycles of the pto lever and speeding the engine up to get it to kick in. Once it starts it doesn't slip and it will engage and disengage like it should. I was thinking that the pump was loosing prime but wondered what you guys thought. Thanks.

my brother fixed one a few months ago. the draw tube on the unit came loose and wouldnt p/up fluid. if your fluid level is good then there is a bad seal somewhere.

Like dao said. The same PTO unit in all of them from 706 to a 1466 I believe. rebuilt units for around 6-800. Or easy to pull just drain it and pull it out. We do that and just drop off at dealer to rebuild then put back in. The pressure needs to be set when rebuilt is why we do it that way.

I just bought a 706, and I'll be interested to hear about this issue. The shafts turn all time-as if something in the control valve isnt disengaging. Good looking 706!

Thanks for the replies I'll tear into it this spring and let you know what I find. the loader was a project that I hoped to get done before winter came... good thing I kept the other loader around. Now I need to figure out how to plumb for power beyond.....
