I would like to know if anyone knows where the pressure relief valve is on a 1086 im pretty sure its not on the mcv valve. My tractor has very sluggish steering we have remplaced the t/a witch was out and checked the steering cylinder and remplaced the mcv pump and still the steering is sluggish. Any idea would be great I was thinking maybe the pressure relief was bad but i dont know. Thanks for any help

It is hard to check out the steering system without a flo-rater. all the valves are in the MCV. there is the flow divider and the safety relief.
I would check the spring on the flow divider and clean out the orifice. the orifice is the first plug on the bottom right side, the flow divider is the next one up. another place could be the oring on the safety relief that one is on the bottom right of the MCV.
Good luck Ed

Power steering relief valve in lower right hand corner of mcv, comes out the bottom. It is not unusual for the o-ring on it to wear out, get cut or wrong one put on. Also, it is a spring loaded valve that is preset and then the screw in end is staked to keep it at that setting. Screw may be loose and backed out or may have a small piece of crap under valve. Take the plug out and if relief valve doesn't want to come out for inspection, just start tractor and it will blow it out. You can install a gauge to check steering pressure but don't put gauge in that port as it will read regulated pressure which is much lower. Take out the plug with the 5/8th head on it to check pressure. Can't remember if it should read 1700 or 2200 on the 86 series. Check orfice behind plug for restriction also. If it would steer good at high engine speeds but not at low speeds the flow divider may be stuck or sticky.
