Farmall H serial #

I was under the impression that my H was a 1949. The serial # is FBH31800X1. When I read serial numbers from a book the first four read it to be a 1949 but when I typed my serial number in on YT's site is said it was a 1940. What does the X stand for?

Your H is a 1940. (http://pages.suddenlink.net/twcook/farmall-h/dates.htm)

The "X1" in the serial number means that the engine is to run on strictly gas as opposed to other tractors of the time which could run on a few different types of fuels, such as distillate. The X1 also indicates the engine has a slightly higher compression ratio.

According to the list on the left of this page your H is a 1949. 49 numbers started at 30xxxx.
