McCormick W6 Clutch adjustment

Great Plains

New User
I just bought a running W6 with a front end loader on it and a Ford 9N also running with a bush mower on it. They are my very first tractors and don't know much about them. The clutch on the W6 is either on or off there is no slow starts. A little scary when you are trying to grap stuff with the loader. Is this something I can adjust or is that just how those trackers are?

The clutch pedal needs to move about 1.5 inches before it feels pressure. (Movable by hand)
about one to one and an eighth at the pedal rest.
They are in a position such that the operator is pushing forward at an angle. Legs tend to release in a way that causes the clutch to come out faster than desired. Couple those with a clutch system that has very little cushion on the engage point, and they are jerky. Practice will help, and use will soften it some, as the components smooth up some. (If it has seen little use). Jim

well its not how they are , either letting it out too fast, or you may have oil on the disc which will make it jump.i have six W6s and they are all smooth except one which is a little jumpy.can back up to an implement for hook up very smoothly. also need about 1 1/4 in. freeplay at trans cover where clutch petal contacts it.another thing your clutch may be worn that it needs replacing.

I am going to order a manual for it, but 1st want to get the serial number off the tractor, but it has been painted over so I want to take my time to get the paint off so I don't wreck any numbers on the serial number. I have found different manuals online. Any suggestions as to which is best? Then I will see what it takes to change the clutch.

Thanks for your help.
