Ive been told you can not find replacments parts for IH 12in plows, does any one have a sourse for new parts,Plow cheif bottoms or any other after market parts

I don't know whether Plow Chief parts are available or not, but I bought shins & shares for Super Chief bottoms at the local Case/IH dealer about 2 years ago. I don't know if it was current stock or some that they had laying around for awhile. I would start there, some dealers might have a source or some NOS parts around.

Parts for the original style bottoms that came on the #8 plow are not available. That's true. You can't realistically expect replacement parts to be available for something made in the 1920's that isn't "$exy" like a tractor.

There used to be a place called Crescent Forge that made the old plow parts, but they were very expensive. Crescent Forge went out of business a few years ago, and were looking for a buyer up until this summer. Supposedly they were threatening to sell everything to the Chinese for scrap in hopes of finding a buyer.

Anyway, the only type of bottom that parts are currently being manufactured for now is the SUPER CHIEF type. These bottoms are still sold new by CaseIH.

The cheap way out is to weld some additional material on your current bottoms, but if they're too far gone, you should consider converting to Super Chief. They bolt right on the #8 frame.

If you go out and buy all the parts new, you'll easily put $500 into each bottom. Best to find a newer plow and cannibalize the bottoms off it, then sell the rest for scrap.

You can install a 14" Super Chief bottom on your 12" plow. The width of cut is determined by how the bottoms are spaced, not by the size of anything on the plow bottom itself.

Im confused,If I bolt 14in on a 12in plow I relize the points should be lined up with the beams, but wont the 14in points still cut 14ines of ground

James the first plow would cut 14" depending on where you run your tractor tire but second plow would only cut 12" if the beams were set for 12"
they will still plow ground. oldiron29

No, it would not cut 14".

Cut is about where the plow is set to run, not the length of the share.

The front bottom will hang into the previous furrow by 2". It will only cut 12".

The second bottom is spaced 12" over from the first, so it too will only cut 12", and it would hang into the front bottom's furrow by 2".

On Super Chief, the only difference between different width bottoms is the share/point. They all have the same frog, same moldboard, same shin, same landside.

If it really bothers you, you can torch 2" off the share/point, but I'm telling you it won't make a bit of difference.
