what weight oil is corect for h m rearends

80-90 GL4 gear oil is the correct lube. If it is noisy or worn I would use 85-140 GL4 or GL5.
It is hard to find 90 wt oil (book specified)and pointless. Jim

I was wondering if 85-140wt IH Brand GL-5 is ok? That is what I have been using in my H transmission and steering box. I read on the JD board that you can't use a GL-5 in a JD. Is that just a JD specific problem?

I do not know much about JD machines. I would assume it is safe and desirable to use GL5 as it has higher shock and pressure additives. It is recommended for low speed high force systems, as well as other factors found in Highway vehicles.
