Boy I missread that question. The original lead on the gauge was only 18 inches or so. Ken Updike has the reproductions which are politically correct. 608-455-2411. Other than draining the coolant, just unbolt it and replace.

Both the short and long IH temp gauges we sell are original IH parts. Not repros.

Well I reckon we have different definitions for reproduction and original. Can't be original since you are not selling 50 year old NOS IH gauges. I thought reproduction was the appropriate term.

Actually a reproduction is an item made by a non oem approved vendor, that comes close to but does not EXACTLY meet the oem specifications. Nearly all of the "aftermarket" parts fall under this category. Many of the parts are "reverse engineered" by these "will fitters".

A service part that is still offered by the OEM is not a "reproduction". It is in fact a new stock part. In time this will become a "new old stock" part.

There is a business in the USA who markets "reproduction" gauges. Are they 100% correct??? No, not by my standards (comparing them to the original IH parts specs as called for in the parts blueprints). They do however offer some gauges that the various OEM's have chosen to abandon offering in the marketplace.

Ken, thanks for the explanation. I'll be calling you for parts if I ever acquire my Grandpa's H. At least the tractor is sitting in my barn. It will need at least $500 in parts.

The Red is right!...10 to 1 the threads on the new one wouldn't fit into the fitting in the head anyway. The outside threads on the head fitting is regular 1/2 IP. The inside threads are a real strange pitch fine thread. New ones even from Case IH come with different threads.//FB

The original temp. gauges were real long. You can pick one up at NAPA which will be a short one and will work fine. Basically you might have to take a chisel and offset pliers and rip the old one out. The new one simply sets in with no problems.
