Was just over on tractor house looking around and there is a 856XL listed for sale.

I have heard of a 856 Custom but not a 856 XL.

A 856 Custom came from the factory with no lights,TA or fenders and maybe some other deletes.

What is a 856XL? The 856XL listed did have a TA.

Only thing I can think about is the XL cab that was featured on British built IH tractors. You might have the 885 and then there was the 885XL with the XL cab. If anything I would guess it's a higher spec model. Sam

Yes totally different to an American 856. It had a turbocharged 574 - 674 engine and a pretty cab! The XL series in Doncaster did have some fans but I know many IH enthusiasts around me changed their "religion" pretty damn quick when they came out because of reliability issues. (For example gear change linkages seemed to give a lot of trouble). I once saw an 856XL at a working demonstration near Doncaster working beside the same horsepower Fendt (309 ) and by coincidence they were both pulling the same model plow (Kverneland 4 furrow reversible ) The Fendt left the International standing!
