Does anybody know how to wire a basic flasher relay from scratch? It is for my 1976 140 that has the hazard lights on the rear. It DOES NOT have turn signals, only hazards.

What kind of flasher do I buy at NAPA Auto Parts? What do I look/ask for?

When I put flashers on the cab of my old Case (12V) I tapped into the regular light wires and just put the flasher in the line to the flasher lights. Works great but you have to have the light switch on for the flashers to work.

The light switch I am using has the first postition (really second cause first is off) set for the flashers. I have a rear amber light on each side and was wondering how to wire them 2 lights up to the switch and the flasher unit included.

I also need help on what I need to purchase specifically. Thanks guys.

Just run a length of wire from your flasher switch to your lights and splice both lights to this wire. Then somewhere in that new line cut it in two and put ends on the wire that will take the plugs on the flasher and that should do it. That flasher won't come with any mounting brackets so I just taped mine to the wire itself. Tell NAPA what you are using the flasher for and they should sell you one to work.

Ask the NAPA guy for the heavy duty mechanical flasher. I went through several cheap ones. However I have a 24' hay rack with complete lights back and sides. It was a little too much load for the cheap flasher.

This is simple. Autoparts stores will carry all the parts, mount then where they can be protected from physical damage, and the switch is easy to reach, but not accidentally turned on. Jim

Janicholson drawing explains it nicely. If you are using the regular light switch for flashers you won't need the toggle he shows. Probably not the fuse either if your lights already have one in the light switch.

Any 12V flasher hanging on the peg at the auto parts store will work. Flasher units are generic.

The round ones are "correct" for that era tractor. There might even be a metal loop somewhere around the seat area on the tractor that would hold the round flasher.

There is a loop under the seat on my 1966 140 so there should be on yours. A piece of radiator hose did a great job replacing the original cushion and holding the NAPA replacement--actually an upgrade from stock. The IH flasher had a larger diameter so I needed a new cushion even if it were not trashed. Counter-guy found the flasher, said they sold it for old school busses so it's pretty heavy duty. Working fine for a good six years (just one light on left in 1966).

OMG!! That is so funny because that is exactly what my idea was and what I did!! I remember taking off a big loop bracket under the seat and decided to mount it to that. After noticing that the flasher was smaller than the hole, I decided to use a piece of radiator hose left over that was sitting there and it fit perfectly. Haha, thats funny that I thought of that and never saw your post.
