Question on the pre-clean I found

If someone gets a chance, please measure the OD on the air pipe on your SC or SA. the pre-cleaner I found at a flea market, has an OD of 1 5/8" and an ID of 1 1/2". It appears to be built to go over top of the pipe, and not in it.

Another interesting thing, is that the jar threads are for a standard jar, not a wide mouth (which I posted earlier). This also had yellow paint on it (or remnants there of) which makes me think this is off of an industrial SA. The clamp was really interesting too, as it is cast iron, and VERY heavy.

Aftermarket precleaners with the glass jar are readily available, but expensive. As you have found they come in different sizes. I did not know, however that the jars were different. The ones I have seen have the normal metal clamp, don't know what you have. You might look at Steiner's web site-www.external_link. SC and SA are not necessarily the same. You can confirm these numbers: SA up to SN 355669, 1 3/8" base (cleaner not tube); 356001-up, 1 3/4", also fits C and SC, thru the 340. H-up 2", M up 2.25". Jar for the SA is $19.95, 2 5/8" OD thread.

Sounds like you bought something that sure was not for an I-H they never had cast clamps and took standard jar threads. Buyer beware

Gene, I absolutely agree. It cost $20, and I was willing to take a chance. I was able to clean it up and it turned out nice.

Well, I need to find out what it fits, and sell it since it doesnt' appear to fit anything I own. I have spent $20 on worse things!!!!! :wink:

Tom, I have been keeping my eye out for precleaners for some of my tractors to jazz them up for showing. I got a new aftermarkert for an M,from Bates corp. at the red power show they where asking 75.00 witch I have not seen anywhere. They do go over the air pipe. I though A,B,C where 1 7/8 OD and H,M where 2 1/4 OD.
Unless that is exhaust size. oldiron29

The 1/2 pint jars are neither wide mouth nor standard. The mouth is one size only on a 1/2 pint jar.

Well, the mystery is solved. The air cleaner pipe on my '52 Super C is 1 5/8" OD. So, long story short, this pre-cleaner will fit my Super C.
