Farmall A plow size

Don't believe it would work very well. Not enough weight or horse power either. A trailer plow requires a heavier tractor than a mounted plow as it doesn't tranfer weight to the tractor like a mounted plow does.

I believe the standard plow for an A would be a one bottom 16 inch.

It would depend very much on the type of soil you are trying to plow. In light, or sandy soil it would probably be OK. In heavy or hard compacted soil, probably not.

In 1949 I pulled a JD 2/12 plow with my '47 Willys Jeep. I could out perform a new Ford with 2/12s

Vern, the first vehicle I ever owned , other than a bicycle was a 1947 Willys Jeep. Wish I had a new one to play with again, but they are a little too spendy. The wife thinks I ought to buy one. Smart woman.

In heavy clay it would probably be too big, but then 1-14" or 16" would also be too big in that case. In [u:47611a7d4d]most[/u:47611a7d4d] soils with enough rear weight, it should be okay, but will not be the fastest thing around. With a 12", you won't want to go any deeper than about 6" anyway.
Always wondered how the Jeeps were with a plow.
