farmall m question

i have a farmall m that is always hard starting, as the old starter just turns it over too slow. a couple years ago i took out the points and installed the electronic kit, and had to update it to a eight volt battery, still a slow starter. now my farmall 300 8 volt died, so i stole the one off my m. im now thinking since i have to buy a battery i might as well go 12 volt and switch the m over. question has to do with the petronix kit which is 6 volt positve, should i just switch the petronix to 12 volt or use a resistor and keep it 6 volt. also i want to sell this tractor, so the easier it starts the easier it will be to move!!

try a new switch first,my M did the same thing and my switch went so I put on a 14.00 new one and it turns over like night and day.The 6 volt makes a spark every time you hit the button so the switches go bad and don't let enough current through.

A short, 00 gauge ground cable with clean ends; and a good ignition switch will do wonders for cranking.

This. My M almost never started it used to turn over so slow. I put a new starter on it, Switch, and finally cables. Once I put new 00 Gauge cables on it and cleaned the grounds all up, it now almost sounds like it's 12v.
