1486 hydraulics get slow. steering gets slow and brakes get spungy. also 3 point is slow and lifts discbine slow. if i open engine up it helps some. i wouldnt think both pumps went bad at the same time. the mvc pump is only 2 years old. i put air pressure in the trans dipstick tube and held hand over breather to check for leaks and found none. i changed the hyd filter. this tractor had a brand new rear end put in 4 years ago. but the owner had only changed the hyd filter once since then. i did notice a little metal in the filter andv some under the filter on the bottom of the case. new filter didnt seem to help. what do you guys think? thanks. joe

Does it have enough oil in the transmission. It is possible that the tube for the dipstick has gotten bent down so that even if the level is correct on the stick the tractor is still low on oil. The oil level needs to be at the center of the axles when the dipstick reads full. If you dipstick still has two level marks on it cut it off at the bottom line so that there is only one level mark remaining.

If the oil level is correct, try adding an extra five gallons to cover any possible air leaks inside the tractor. Assuming that you have the earlier style hydraulics, you may have a crack in the super charge line allowing air to enter the suction side of the pumps.

check the pressure at the ports for each pump or get a flow rater and check at the hyd couplers. also could have blown the oring for the rear pump. as far as the brakes being spongy, prolly time for a pump and mcv valve rebuild.
