Gov Weight Pins...

I pulled my gov off to go through it and discovered, as I suspected, that the pins that hold the weights are well worn and in dire need of replacement. My question is; where can I get replacements, or, better still, is there a substitute that I can modify to work? Cheaper is better! Any and all ideas are welcomed.
Thanks,
Bob

Cooper, not to be a nitpicking *$@$%, but WHY not post the model # of the unit you are working with???

On a couple of my Hs,I used some 1/4" long shank bolts. Make sure the shank on the bolt is long enough to pass through both the bracket and the weight. Cut off the threads so there is just enough left install a nut, carefully tighten down the nut so you don"t limit the movement of the weight, and then either tack weld or stake the nut so it can"t loosen up. If I remember right, I had to use a dab of valve grinding compound on the shank of the bolt to "fit" it to the hole in the weight.

Thanks Rusty, this is like what I had in mind. I was also thinking about using some roll pins too. Think these would work well? I can flare the ends of them like the original stuff was to retain them.

In this day and age of the prices of govenor parts for an H or M or the likes, I drill out the weights and carrier and use roll pins. Haven't had the opportunity to test tractors on a dynamometer for govenor sensitivity, but my own rigs seem to be nicely responsive when I come under a load. I drill weight just a tad larger than carrier so it pivots freely. I use numbered drill bits to get this fit. Also, determine the pressue point weight will pivot at so you are not on the roll pin groove. The 221 to 301 gas engines all use roll pins from factory.

I have two sets of pins and weights from a 1948 "C" Farmall, governor I do not have a mike here; however they appear to be about 5/16" in diameter and 1.5" long. You can have them if you can use them.
