clutch/brake shaft seals leaking

The seals are original on my 1940 H. I got new seals and they are thin. Would it be possible rather than chiseling out the old ones put the new seals on without removing the old ones.? There seems to be enough room. The thrust washer would set on top not recessed like it is now.
Thanks.

Sure.
If the bore has enough surface to seat the new seal do it. Be sure the external parts do nit rub on it, and all is well. Polish the shaft (round and round, not in and out) where the new seal will ride with 400 grit paper. fill the space between the seals with chassis grease (lubes the seal lips). Jim
