I have recently come into possession of a 1947 IHC tractor which I am told was built originally for orchard and citrus use. All I know at present is that the engine is identical to a "H". It has an incredibly short wheel base, 16.9 x 26" rear rubber, and although this does not have one I understand some of these tractors were equipped with hand clutches. This machine has a flat belt pulley pto and 4 speed transmission. This tractor was nothing I went looking for. I have seen photographs of immaculately restored examples sporting orchard or what some call grove fenders. Undoubtedly these would have to be shop built. Does anyone have any idea where one might find the dimensions needed to do this?
By the way, the engine in this tractor was originally designed to burn distalite. Is there any advantage to preserving all the bits and pieces needed to run kerosene, etc. Current cylinder head on this engine has been fitted with hardened exhaust seats to cure the years of wear and allow use of no lead gas. Any info would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Whats the model no. and serial No.As far as I can fiqure you have an I-4,O-4,OS-4 or a W-4.I dont understand about the transmission only having 4 speeds unless it was originally equiped with steel wheel and changed over later.(5th would have been locked out)Other than for looks, thers no reason to keep the original manifold if its messed up.You can get gas manifolds for them but the distalate is kinda hard to find, where Im from anyway.I think the O-4 had a hand clutch with the foot clutch being optional.Hope Ive nelped some.RB

The O-4 had the streamlined fenders you are referring to. They were factory made, not home built. The OS-4 had the same low seating position, but did not have the shielded streamlined fenders and steel windshield like the O-4. The I-4 has a foot accelerator and might have hydraulic brakes. Look at your serial number plate, if it is not missing, and it will tell model, and post serial number and someone will tell you year model. If serial number plate is missing, post picture or give more exact details and someone will idenify it, and approximate year model can be found from casting codes.
