Hi guys I am new here and was hoping to find some info on a D301 in my dads 706. We brought it in the shop because it had a knock and was getting hard to start, Well found out #5 rod spun a bearing and compression is very low, I can"t seem to find any parts on the net just wondering if anybody knows of a good place to look for an overhaul kit. Thanks,Jr

806jr, Unless someone has put a 301 gas engine in your dad's tractor it would have came with a gas engine 263,or a 291cubic inch. If your sure it's not a 282ci diesel. then its a D310 german diesel an they are excellent engines.I sell TISCO parts & the kit for complete overhaul list for $966.00 I would sell that kit for$772.00 that does'nt include valve parts or bearings . If interested call cell 314-313-9948 thanks Gene

Yes i am sure it is a 301 it is stamped on the block and i know it is not a german, this engine has no sleeves so i am afraid it is going to need to be bored out but i don't know if i will be able to find pistons for the overbore. Somebody before us must have switched the engine the bearings were stamped std. and had a 1974 date on them which is right when the 715's were being made that used the engine so it might have been put in as a brand new engine back then.

806jr I am a 64 yr. old farmer with a lot of red equip & if were me I would not rebuild it. You can go to a combine salvage yard get a replacement a lot less aggraviation. Just a thought. Good luck Gene

806jr How far are you from st.louis,mo ? I just bought a 301 gas off 715 combine for my 460 & I think he had a low hour diesel from a 715 .If interested call my cell 314-313-9948 GENE

The 706 came out with a 282 diesel glow plug motor and the last year a 310 direct start german diesel. If it is a 301 diesel in your 706, it came off a 315 combine which is the same motor just with out sleeves. I am not 100% sure but I do think the 282 and the 301 does use the same crank and rods just the only difference piston size and no sleeves in the 301 diesel and every other part will interchange fron a 282 Diesel. Don't know about getting after market parts for a 301 diesel but they are out there for the 282 diesel.

From what I understand the 715 combine was the only one that had a d-301 engine in it.I guess I could be wrong.I wonder if it was used in anything else.
