Aquired an H today

Got an H that has been sitting a few years. Will start from scratch and see what it needs to run. Any suggestions on what to be looking for? This is my second Farmall as I am still working on a 100 I have been rebuilding.

jack that dude up and check those rear axle bearings one of mine had a 1/2 groove in the axle cause the outer bearing was shot and let the axle run up in the housing. i have a 49 H with PS live hydro, frontendloader with tilt bucket with saginaw three point lift its my only loader tractor and its been a real workhorse. the other one is a plain jane 52

Everyone has there own set of "what to do" on a rescue tractor. I've done a couple and here is what I do:

Drain the fuel tank and make sure it is clean. Pull off the sediment bowl and carb and clean both. Put cleaned carb into soak. I just go ahead and put kits in the carb and ignition system. Check all the wiring. If it's on six volts you gotta clean all the connections and make sure you have good wires AND the battery cables all the way to starter are HD (not hi def).
Get all that done and check for fuel flow at the carb drain and check for spark. All this assuming it is not stuck. Stuck tractors are still out of my league. :)

my family has a super H and we love it its a real workhorse its the only tractor my grandfather would use but we have several farmalls and IH's

i dont assume anything on these old gals. pull the spark plugs, see what they look like. squirt some automatic trans fluid in each cylinder. get a couple empty 5 gallon pails, loosen the rear end drain plug and check for water. if you drop the drain plug, about 8 gallons of gear oil may come out(thats why the buckets) also loosen the lift all belly pump drain and check for water. same with the engine. put the tractor in gear, 3rd or 4th and rock it to see if the engine is loose. leave it in gear, block the clutch pedal down and see if it releases when rocking the tractor. go over all the grease zerks with a couple pumps of grease. also remove the two screw head plugs at the distributor and install a zerk to get grease in there too. you also may want to pull the velve cover and check the valves to see if they are stuck. some penetrating oil or trans fluid on them wont hurt either. if the mtor is loose, roll it over with the crank or bump the starter and watch the valve train.
