IH 350 Ind and Farmall M motors- for elect conversion

Help. Im wanting to convert my 350 Industrial to 12 volts. There is a kit for the M, but..are they the same engine? Has anyone tried this using that kit? Without the kit? Thanks in advance.

They are not the same, The 350 is a more powerful edition of an H engine. They are basically scale models of each other. The process is similar however. I recommend using a Hitachi alternator from a mid 1980s Nissan PU. These are the same wiring as a Delco 3 wire setup, not complex, and modest in size (better hood clearance) Bracketing is not a problem if you can handle som all thread and spacers. The wiring diagram (and tons of additional content)are in the archives. Bob M wiring diagrams are a main stay of this process. JimN

Thank you very much. I'll look at the archives. Have you done this conversion? how about the one wire alternators? The local parts house is pushing those. Thanks again

Don't like a one wire. Biggest complaints don't start charging at idle and sometimes cause excessive battery drain when not run for long periods. Myself, I like the three wire. not that much more complicated to wire. Cheeeper too. Diagrams in the archives.

Check out www.brillman.com. I got the small alternator, the wiring harness that plugs right in and the electronic ignition conversion for my 350U. I just got the stuff, didnt get it in yet. The harness is labeled where each wire goes. Its a nice setup.
