farmall v-8

I read on here and seen pic of farmall Hs amd Ms with v-8s. I wan just wanting to know how the v-8s are hooked up to the stock trans and keep the hood and frame stock. I can think of a adapter plate and manual flywheel with custom clucth but just my guess. Can someone fill me in on the modifycation(sp) to be done.

Yes, you will need to retain the stock flywheel and clutch. But you may find it is not suitable for high RPM. In that case you may be able to use the V8 clutch after some machine work.

Yes, you will need an adaptor plate but they are hard to make if the stock IH plate has no center reference point. I think you will find that will be the case

Yes, you will need to adapt or make dozens of other changes. I have done at least 6 or 7 swaps over the years. They can be very time consuming and expensive. I am currently thinking about a Detroit Diesel in a W-9.

In your situation, I would start by contacting Ed Leaman at Leamantractorparts.com. His dealership mfgs adaptors for Farmalls. You will see them on eBay. However, I would say that he probably doesn't adapt gas V8s but he could direct you to someone that might.

Ed hangs out a the Red Fower Forum if you want to PM him. I'd rather use email.

I would contact Marshall Litchfield in Macomb Illinois. He has done this swap several times. Last time I talked to him he was thinking about coming out with a kit for this purpose. Think about this, he has a John Deere A with a 318 Chrysler engine. Bernie Steffen
