Farmall H PTO repair or replacement

I"ve got a "45 Farmall H and the PTO engagement lever is broken right where it meets the pto housing. I happen to have another rear end from an H so I removed the PTO from it. That PTO came out easily including the 2 foot shaft that goes into the rear housing.
I was hoping I could just replace the engagement lever. Is that possible?
It now seems easier to just replace the entire PTO. If I remove my existing PTO with the 2" shaft, can I just slide this in - or are there parts/gears to line up and will I have to remove the top cover or another cover to do that?
I think I attached pictures - but ??

You should be able to do any of the things you mentioned. If it was mine I would take them apart and clean everything use the best parts from the two, replace seals and reinstall.
You do not have to remove the deck, just drain the oil down some so it doesn't run out or raise the rear end(back up on a steep incline or jack it up and block).
 
Very easy to disassemble and replace the seals. The small seal for the shift lever usually leaks so replace it while you can.
When re-installing the unit, put a pipe over the PTO splines to give you leverage to get the shaft lined up with the drive gear.
When installing the PTO shield, check the cap screw length so you don't break a cast ear off the housing.
 
If you haven't already removed your PTO, it may help to see what you will be looking at on the inside. Sorry for the late post, things have been busy here lately.
It is quite possible that you have merely sheared the bolt on the inside because the lever, if it was broken would have most likely fallen off.

I want to thank you for all the reponses. The picture sent by THE MAN was very helpful. I swapped the PTO assembly, installed new seals, and it seems to be working fine - no leaks so far. Thanks again.
