Farmall M - Cooling System

Can anyone tell me the amount of coolant a Farmall M will hold and if the standard 1:1 mix of antifreeze and water is okay? Also, what is the pressure rating of the radiator cap and temperature rating for the thermostat? (Maybe someday I'll buy a reference book for my Farmall.)

Cooling system holds 6 gallons. I always use a 50/50 mix of antifreeze & water, if you live in a colder climate, you may want to increase the amount of antifreeze. Thermostat opens at 165 degrees, fully open at 195. My book does not say anything about the pressure rating of the radiator cap, 5-7 lbs. I would imagine.

Don't go over 50% anti freeze and 50% water......that is maximum protection. Pure anti-freeze will freeze.

Mark,
I agree with you that pure antifreeze will freeze, I think it starts to become slushy at around -7°F. However maximum protection is a mix 70% antifreeze/30% water which is good to -84°F. For 90% of us here in the lower 48 a 50/50 mixture is more than adequate and will give protection to -34°F.
