IH 300U fuel system problems

I have a 56' IH 300U, I just bought it and It ran well for a few hours then lost power, sputtered, and sometime quit. It had sat for many years before, so I cleaned out the tank, line, carb, and bulb. Nothing worked. It's not Electrical though. I notice a slight leak off the fuel vacuum (not sure of the actual term) It seems to be starved of gas at higher RPM or when a load is put on the engine, or at any random time it will sputter and die. I don't think it's the carb. Any suggestions?

Being a new to you tractor it could be a multitude of things.
It sounds like fuel line plugged somewhere. But IF that is not the case the first thing I would do is popped the dist cap and check that the points are clean and set and wires are secure.
But it still sounds like fuel. Do an archive search on this forum and you will get lots of ideas.

Try the fuel inlet screen at the carb fitting. Hold the one closest to the carb, and loosen the fitting on the line. Check the screen. There should be flow that fills a pop can in 20 to 30 seconds. JimN

Start it up outside. When it starts to sputter, remove the fuel cap. If it improves, suspect a plugged cap vent causing a vacuum in the tank. Otherwise, check the archives as Dell suggests. There's not really very much to the fuel system -- cap, tank, sediment bulb/screen/valve, fuel line w/carb screen, and carburetor, plus any aftermarket stuff previous owners may have added (e.g., in-line filter). It shouldn't take you too long to zero in on the problem.
