International 404 exhaust manifold

I may not be using the correct terms ....first the the exhaust manifold that connects to the engine manifold is held on by 2 bolts or what used to be bolts & this joint is leaking at least half it"s total circumfrance. How in the world does one get these 2 parts apart without breaking one or both parts.Second part of the question is the muffler is missing (horizontal type) & it seems reasonable I must fix the above problem before tackling the muffler & exhaust pipe.I am not a mechanic ,but am willing to learn & I am sure this is not a new problem for some of you folks.
Any help, suggestions ,etc would be much appreciated!

Bryan,
From your description, not quite sure what exactly is the problem but if it isn't cracked or rusted through there is a good possibility you can take the manifolds off and take them to a machine shop and have them mill the mating surfaces flat again. Then find some good thick gaskets and use new bolts after you chase the old threads in the block. The muffler is usually held to the outlet of the exhaust manifold with some type of clamp. If it’s horizontal it probably has to have a second hanger somewhere also.
I would bet there are a few old engines of that type laying around at wrecking yards but you have to research your part numbers and be able to discuss what your needs are in an articulate manner.
Good luck
John

To both gentlemen that replied...thank you.My original question had to do with how to get the 2 bolts out that hold the exhaust elbow to the manifold...they were terribly rusty & it looked as though the heat had almost welded the parts & bolts together, but with some penetrating oil & careful persuation they came out.The only parts of the gasket that was left was under the bolts. Will a cork gasket be OK at this point with all the heat or should I use something else?
I also discovered that a small corner of the manifold that the bolt that holds the exhaust elbow has broken away leaving only a half a threaded hole.I think I can carefully put a longer bolt with a nut & flat washer to the one side...any better ideas would be appreciated.
