1948 Farmall Cub

I just bought a 1948 Farmall Cub for $1000. It came witha very rough belly mower, and a international plow in very great shape. I thought this was a very good buy. Comments on that?...I was also wondering if The front tires that they came outta the factory with were 3 ribbed like most letter series or tread? The tires on it right now are tread (good year). Please respond.

sounds like you got a good deal on the cub. a runner with a mower and plow is real good pricewise. regarding the front tires, i couldnt say for sure but believe they were ribbed for an ag application. if you will be mowing flat ground, the car type tires tear up ground less on turns. if you need the traction on turns, the rib tires are a lot better. be careful side hill mowing with the cub, they can tip over. i loaded the rear tires on my cub with chloride for extra ballast. cast weights would also be a good option. there are also front wheel weights for the cub too.

Thanks...Im kindof stumped...Im gunna restore this tractor so I was kindof wondering what factory was...But on the other hand i was probaly going to mow the yard occasionally.

Factory was probably tri ribbed front and rear ag tires on a 48. You said your belly mower was rough. Look it over good and make sure the overrunning clutch still works. When I first got my 49 Cub with a Woods mower someone had welded the mower clutch together. When you need to stop is not a good time to find out that it don't work.

heres my cub, i have ribs on the front and turfs on the rear. as far as being "correct", i dont care. i have a woods 59 under this one for mowing, and use and enjoy the tractor.
