lift capacity

Any one have an idea how much weight an A can lift on a three point lift. I have a 100 gallon spray unit, 900 lbs loaded, I want to spray with and wonder if an A will do the job?

damn thats a whole lot of weight to hang off that little tractor
put your sprayer in a trailer and pull it around

Couldn't tell you if an A will hold that, but I have a 55 gal barrel on the back of my Cub mounted on the drawbar which I use to water plants. I collect the water from my sump pump. Have not had any problems so far.

In a word, no. In more words, I used to spray with a International 444, had 3-55 gallon tanks, or about 65% more than yours on a heavier tractor with weight on the front end. The front floated, the hydraulics did not like it. I could get by ok with two of the tanks, or perhaps 40 gal in each (120 gal) at the most, but it was still light. I doubt if the hyd will raise it, but your main problem is weight. You might get by with 50 gallons. That's about 350 lbs of water. You might consider spraying at 10-15 GPA, to get more acres out of a tank. My current 55 gal sprayer uses 13 GPA at 5 mph, which is fast enough.

Harry: The answer is no, you might get by with 50 gallons as CNKS suggests, but it will have to be a well designed hitch. If your talking 50 US gallons there is 400 lb. plus most any sprayers will weigh 200 lb. You get a total 600 lbs. back there and given the constant speeds you must maintain spraying, that is all you want.

I have a hitch on my 140, will lift 1,000 lbs., however one has to be careful with that much weight back there. One can not engage in too much practical activity. Most hitches on these little tractors will not lift more than 600 lbs. anyhow.

If it is an aftermarket factory hitch, 300-400 lbs. is likely the limit. Local fabricators can quite easily achive 600 lb. lift. I suspect the reason the aftermarket don't try to achive more lift is the liability they could incur if someone gets hurt using their hitch.

For ten years I used a farmall B with a 100gal tank mounted on the back with the pump running off the generator. Needed about 100 pounds of weight on the front.

Jimmyjoe: He did ask lift capacity of hitch, not carrying ability of tractor. I used to have a 80 gallon 21' boom sprayer on my 130 hitch. I could raise it about 3/4 full hydraulically, chain it up then spray with it without any front end weight as long as I stayed on level. I was more comfortable with a bit of fron end weoight. The other item that happens with 3 point hitch is it puts weight further from tractor and that distance soon makes a huge difference.
