H/M drop center lug bolts

That question about replacing the tires on an H got me to thinking...

The outside clamp is missing on one of the lugs on my Super H, and the bolt is toast. I've got a new clamp and a new bolt, but...

We tried the heat-n-beat method to bang the old one out, but it just won't budge.

Are the bolts threaded into the hub?

You are talking about the rim to wheel clamps aren't you. No the bolts are not threaded into wheel. After cutting off bolts and jam nuts on my own M last winter I had to beat pretty hard to get a few of the corroded bolts out but they gave up and came out.

I experienced the same thing on my 1940 H. I beat on a couple of them off and on for over a week, alternately heating, letting them cool, applying abundant doses of penetrating oil, and then hammering again. They finally all came loose.
