Sickle mower gards with serrated ledger plate -

I bought a 1100 IH sickle mower and all of the guards are worn out (I have the serrated ledger plate with the smooth sickle sections on the sickle bar).

Does anyone have any advice on what are the best and cheapest guards with the serrated ledger plate.

I have a Mills Fleet Farm near by but was wondering if any one bought some on line that were as good or better and cheaper.

I use serrated sickle sections and guards for a CaseIH 1020 head on my mower. The main thing about changing guards to this setup is changing all of the guards don't mix and match. I'm a mechanic for a Case Ih dealer so I keep my eyes on the scrap bin for used parts that are still serviceable. The sickle bar for a 1020 head is the same dimensions as the 1100 or the 1300 mowers.

I have the same problem with my 1100. The ledger plates are shot, and I was surprised to see how worn the guards were when I replaced a couple with some good used ones. With the same part number stamped on them but there's well over a 1/2 inch differance in length.

I keep looking for an old parts mower - many don't have near the wear in a life time of use that mine saw in a single season.

I have gone the Fleet Farm rock guard/ledger
plate route and can't recommend. I think they're
Chinese made and are not, as you can guess,
very good quality. Once mounted to the bar, it was obvious that some tips pointed too far up,
others too far down, and some were about right.
To get a good fit, I spent a bunch of time
shimming them. It worked, but shouldn't have
been necessary.
