We attended the Clay County Fair in Spencer IA. over the weekend and the local tractor club had a very nice display of tractors, which one was a IH SMTA diesel. The tractor had been recently painted/restored (not perfectly restored, they left some very small dings in the grill and on hood) and good tires. A friend of mine and I got to discussing this tractor's value, I said $25,000, he said closer to $7,000. Who's closer to the real value? We have bet coffee and rolls on this, Help!!

An unrestored, but good condition machine sold for $9700 in SE Wisconsin this spring. The tractor started and switched ok and had a working torque.
IMHO it was only worth about $7000.

I think I'll buy one from him and sell it you.

I'll be sure to make money that way. And I'll buy the coffee and rolls.

It is worth as much as anyone is willing to pay for it.

At any given auction either one of you could win or loose.

A friend of mine sold one last year on e-bay for $6,500. Tractor was very, very rough and really cobbled up. Had a homemade 3pt hitch, 2 prince hyd valves on the lightbar, M seat suspension & battery mounted on the side of the tractor in an angle iron box. wfe from a combine rigged up with powersteering. Manifold was burnt thru & injector pump leaked around the throttle shft bad, tires were bad, sheet metal was banged up with no paint but had green mold growing on it.

I could have bought the tractor for less than 1/2 that price but turnd it down as I thought it was too big of an undertaking. Kind of wish now I would have bought the thing. Guy that bought it was tickled to death

I had another friend buy a "1 owner" straight metal, with decent original pain& tires, ran good, gave $7,500 for it. IMO he got a good buy. I have seen show quality restored ones bring $15,000 & up.
