'48 H ignition switch location

Ok, so as I'm putting this back together, I'm wondering. My ignition switch was mounted in a hole on the light bar. Does it belong there on down in one of the larger holes by the belt pulley rod and choke rod?

If your tractor was not equipped with lights, and had a Magneto for ignition, and crank start, it might have been located on the lower castings.
48s mostly had the button in the electrical box with the amp gauge and light switch. jimN

Let's start here S/N is 296087 - makes it Nove '48 production, if I looked it up right. As I was told I am the third owner, my wife's great-grandfather bought it new, and her grandfather kept it. We acquired it after he passed away last year. It has electronic ignition, lights and electric start. The light box has no hole for a switch. To further complicate it her grandfather's brother worked for IH in Louisville, so who knows what could have been changed/added/replaced. Suggestions?

I have seen them on the lower bracket, and on the light bar, so sense it is not a stock system anyway, do it as seems easiest to use. JimN

I've got a '50 H in original condition. It has the ignition switch mounted in the same bracket that is used to mount the belt pulley lever and the radiator shutter control. I don't think the ignition switch in the amp box was done until the Super H was introduced.

For what it's worth, my 1940 H has the ignition switch in the same approximate location as the '50.

Isn't that odd. And I thought your name was Janic Holson, Janick Olson, or the son of Jan Ickol.

Switch was mounted in the steel plate on lower steering post or in the hydraulic operating rod support. Light bars didn't come with holes for the switch. Don't think a distributor was standard equipment until 1949, your tractor probably had a mag. IH didn't mount ignition switches in the instrument box cover until stage 2 SH and SM.
