I hava a Farmall B. I went to start her the other day....it hit once, then wouldnt even click. I chanbed the starter switch and that didnt help, so i had the battery tested. It failed, so i replaced it along with the battery cables. Still didnt help!! Its been converted to 12 volt years ago. Anyone got any ideas??

Check in the bell housing through the inspection plate for any sort of nests. The bendix will jam in there is there is.

Have you tried hooking up the starter directly to the battery with some jumper cables? If it doesn't work that way, its time to take the starter to the shop. If it does then you know its the connections somewhere. I had one do that on my M... worked one day and didn't the next. Had it rebuilt for $50 and its worked great for about 6 years now.

My starters were like yours. I took the starters from my SC and my A apart and used electrical cleaner on them and a wire hand brush. I cleaned everything until it was bright and shiny. They both work like a champ.
On most of this electrical stuff I try to clean it first and see if it helps before I start to repair or replace. Ron

Losen up the mounting bolts to check that the drive isnt locked up mite need to remove the starter as going to 12v can mess the drives up even bust the end casting as there is realy no reason to change a B farmall to 12v.

Look inside the starter case where the battery cable stud goes through the case. Most of the starter troubles I've found were caused by the stud being loose, and the field coil connections were loose from the stud being loose. New stud kits are availabe for around 6 bucks. ken
