1942 Farmall M rims

Hi,
I have a 1942 Farmall M that I am currently restoring. And it has the typical 38" rear tires on it. I was just taking a look at my IHC parts book and it lists a '42 M as originally having 36" rear tires. I am hoping someone can give me some input on this as, I personally have never seen a 'M' with 36" inch tires. If that is the case, I am looking for rear rims.
Thanks,
Dan

Without looking at my M parts book, I believe 38's became available in 1940. They may have been an option after that, but the first ones built did have 36's.

Parts book with print date 1-31-40 lists only 36. One with a print date of 1941 (its rough can't make out the month or day) lists both 36 , 38 and 40. 1-28-43 print date lists 36, 38 and 40.

Thanks a lot for the help. This is my first actual restoration project and so far it is going great. I am glad to see that my M should be fine with 38's. Because I just bought new Firestones. The parts book that I have was issued in 3-60. It is probably a little watered down. But, the pictures are great. Hopefully it will make it to the RPRU this year.

My 1940 M has 38 inch wheels and the center castings both have 10*25*I (Oct. 1939 I think) casting dates.

The cast centers were the same for 36 or 38. Don't disagree about the rims though. Even though a parts book dated 1- 1940 only lists 36. By the time book was printed the information is probably a few months out of date.

We have something in common, I'm also retstoring a '42 M. Rear tires are 38's on mine.

I'm early in the restore process, please share with me any problems and/or insights you encounter with your process.
