I just picked up a Cub. The hydraulic system acts like it's low on hyd. fluid. The book says to use Hytran, is there any other oil that will work?
It's a long ride to the nearest IH dealer.
Thanks for your help.

Aren't you near Worcester? The Goodall Equipment dealer on Rt 9 sells Case Industrial products. They will have it. I have seen it stacked up on the floor across from the parts counter. I think they are in Southborough.

Any hydraulic fluid will work as well. It usually comes in two weights. I think you want the 32 weight.

I use 30W non-deterg oil in mine. Its an older one (48) and that is what the book for it says to use. Works OK. Don't know about anything newer than a 48. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

Any hydraulic fluid will work if it's compatable with the oil in your system, Not all hydraulic fluids are compatable with each other. You probably have HY-Tran and if it's a petroleum base fluid, then any petroleum based fluid will work, but a glycerin based or a mineral based fluid will not. rw

Even Walmart sells a Hy-Tran compatible fluid. Just read the bottle before you buy. It will say "meets or exceeds the specifications of" and will list several different types of oil, including HyTran.

You do NOT want "R&O" type hydraulic fluid.

JD Hy-Guard hydraulic-transmission fluid will work.

Penziol and Black Bear also make hydraulic trans fluids.

Hy-tran is the best on the market but not the only one. Al lot of anti-rust and anit-water additives.

My day replaced all his transmission hydraulic fluids with Dextron and never had a problem for over 30 years.

Bingo! I bought my last fluid from the nearest (Kubota) dealer. It stated right on the label that it was a compatible substitute for Hy-tran.
