1066 shifting question

Why is it that when coasting to a stop to shift gears that it shifts hard unless you apply the brakes to last couple inches of roll of the tractor. If you do not do this it can hardly be shifted from low to high range or reverse. Using the brake to stop the roll it shifts like a dream and yes I have had the IH mechanic adjust all the linkages just a few hours ago.

HE still does not have it set just wright trust me on this The dump valve is still off on adjustment
and she is hanging on the t/a If he set it BY THE BOOK then he is off as with age and wear the book just does not work , that is why i set them as i do and even then sometimes i have to tweek my adjustments . This comes from a lot of years working on them

Believe me I trust you! I know what he is going to say - I did it by the book. Is this something I can tweek a little or do I need to take it back into him. I can probably dig back and find your process in the archives if I need to go thru the whole thing.

If the freee play is wright then myself i would re check the transmissionn brake and see how that was set and you may find that you may need to add a half turn to that clevis and maybe up to a full turn all depends on the ware of everything . Then i would get someone setting in the seat and with engine running at and idle and the transmission in Neutral park loc set and T/A dump valve tel tale lite working back off the dump valve bolt five six full turns and start . Push the clutch pedal down to the stop and hold it there . the teltale should be off at this time now turn the bolt in slow ly and tell the person holding the clutch pedal down to tell you the instant that it comes ON , as soon as it does STOP release the pedal and then ADD one more full turn to the bolt and stop and set the lock nut . Then try it out and see if it works better . If not then add just a whisker to it at a time as now it is getting down to splitting the blond hair . I will be gone for most of the day so if ya got more questions i will be on a bit this evening , good luck
