Hard starting Cub

I just bought a 48 Cub, and boy this thing is hard to start. once is starts it seems to run ok
it seems to help if I hold my hand over the carb
with the choke on. Is it time to rebuild the carb???
Or can it be sucking air from the intake??

The answer is "yes" to both questions.

If it runs good with the choke open, I"d give it a good tune up first. If it was sucking air it probably wouldn"t run right unless you close the choke partially to keep it running. rw
