matching plow for 48 M

Iwould like to find the best match for a friends 48 M. Hyd lift preferred. Pretty easy plowing on my farm.

3 X 14 Number 8 Little Genius will work fine in easy plowing.

We pulled a 3 X 16 hydraulic plow with our 47 M in sandy loam soil and it did a good job with it.

I have an unused, still has the blue paint and decals on a super Chief, IH 3-16 mounted plow if you have a 3pt. Will sell it cheap. In South Dakota.

#60 3-16" or 3-14". Modern parts will fit and it will pull easier. Made for hyd. lift, more clearance, nicer coulters and trip beams....James

Many Little Genius plows were hydraulic lift as well. Lot more of them so they are easier to find.

Back in the day when the M was a farm's "big" tractor, you would typically pull a 3-bottom plow to cover the most ground you could in a day at maximum efficiency.

Now that these tractors are 60 years old maybe you should consider pulling a little less than maximum load?

If you can find a 3-bottom plow that's not all worn out, by all means go for it, but don't pass up a good 2-bottom plow.

My #70 3-16" just left with it's new owner today... Pulled it with my '50 M for the past couple of years... Took 3 wheel weights a side on new 15.5 x 38's to power out before spinning.

Be aware that if you plan to buy a plow with super chief's "cheap" with the plans to rebuild.. It'll cost you a couple hundred a bottom if you replace everything bolted to the frog... That's using a Weise moldboard... IH Moldboards are almost $200 ea... I'm just about to rebuild my 412 16"...
