Farmall H Drive shaft connection

I am trying to get the drive shaft connection apart to replace the seal and bearing that goes into the rear end. I took the nuts off of the bolts but I can not get the bolts out. They won't budge. I tried to pry them out with a bar but no luck. Are the bolts threaded into the yoke or will they pound out? I think the ring holes are oblong because it is very loose. The bolts were tight but it is very loose.

Mine were the same way, really hard to get the bolt out. I unsrewed the nut out to the end to protect the thread. With alot of persistance I was able to tap them out. Not much room but it worked. I was ready to cut them out. good luck Matt P.S. I.H. still sells replacement bolts with the rubber bushings.

Hit the yolk on the edge where the bolt passes through and they will usually come loose. The bolts are taper fitted into the yolk and when nut is tightened they wedge to prevent them from wearing the yolk.

Thanks for the advice guys. I will try a little more persuasion to knock the bolts out. I just didn't want to break something not knowing if they were threaded in the yoke or not. Not sure if I can get enough of a swing with a hammer as there is not much room with the lift all pump in there. Does anybody know if I can replace the bearing and seal without taking out the lift all pump?

even if you could get them out with the pump in place, save your self alot of aggrevation and busted knuckles and take it out. it will give you alot more room to work, and it will probably take less time in the end. while you're there, it would be a good time to change the seal on the liftall drive shaft, as it probably leaks too.

Chris has the answer. Get a good six point box end wrench of the proper size and use it on the head to twist the bolts to break them loose. These bolts are tapered shoulder bolts and are jammed into the tapered holes in the coupling parts. I've always been able to break them loose by putting a wrench on the heads. You will need to lock the transmission so the shaft can't turn. I usually do this by putting the PTO in gear and putting a fitting on it so it can't turn. Whatever you do, don't pound on the bolts with a hammer unless you really protect the threads. New bolts are more than $20 each.
