M Carb Question

I need some advice from the experts on a troubled M carb. I purchased a re-build kit and in it is what I believe to be a replacement main jet. What I am referring to is a brass/gold jet that is slotted on one end and has threads on the other. It is about 11/16 of an inch long. Is this the main jet replacement and....if so....how does one go about removing the existing main jet (is is not slotted). I have an E12 carb.

If not the main jet, where does this go?

I am having big problems with my carb. I ran through all jets and they are not clogged. Since I have her apart, I figured I would rebuild.

Sounds like the idle metering jet. If you hold the bottom part of carburetor with the choke end toward your body. Look at the gasket surface on opisite side of big middle air intake hole from you. There is 2 holes, one will have a insert with a small hole in middle. Thats the air bleed. beside this hole is where the idle jet goes. If its not broke off or missing it should stick up above the surface 7/16 or so. It screws in the hole, be gentle with it. If yours is broke or missing thats one problem with the carburetor.

I think D Slater has you covered but here is drawing anyway.

D - thank you. I went and found some good pics on the Internet and figured out that what I had in my hand was the idle jet. Why did I not figure it out when I took it apart???? Surprise...there was NO idle installed! I was wondering why that hole was threaded. Anyway, do you think a missing idle jet contributed to my problems. Hope so, now that it is installed.

But back to the original question - can the main jet be replaced?

Yes, In the picture JMOR was kind enough to post its item # 46. Item # 30 is the nut holding it in. It has a screw driver slot in nut near drain hole for bowl. Information is for a original M carburetor #, if it was switched to another carburetor sometime it may not have a nut on bottom.

Didn't answer all of question. Don't know or remember what problem you were having, but yes the missing jet would be a problem.
