front pulley

My cub project just keeps getting worse. I bought a cub that was supposed to have a good motor thinking I'd just switch it into the family cub that definately has a bad engine. Well the "new" one is just about as bad. Rod and mains are scored and so is the crank, head is cracked--and on and on. We will fix it but as usual it is not as inexpensive as I'd planned. Todays problem is getting the crank out. Had a very hard time pulling the front pulley off the crank. Man was it on there. Heat and a really big puller finally got it. The question now is on reassembly how the heck to I get it back on?

Just heat it back up and it will slip on almost all the way with little resistance. However be ready with a block of wood and 3lb hammer to finish it though. Make sure to put grease on the pulley and seal so as not to melt the seal. As for heating it iv let them sit on top of the wood stove for some time and iv heat them up with a rose bud.

At IHC Louisville Works they were heated in an electric oven. Don't remember the temperature, but they slipped right on while wearing asbestos gloves. Probably around three hundred degrees. Good luck, Joe

jbp is right. Heat to 300 degrees in the oven for about 20 min. Might want to wrap ice baggies around the end of the crank while the pulley is heating up. Like Andrew said, have block of wood and hammer ready.

Make sure the first batch of cookies out of the oven after the pulley goes to the neighbors house!!
