rock it governor

Was wondering if anyone has any experience with these rock it governors? They were made by Extra Power Enterprises in Waynesburg Pa. back in the early 90"s. Drug an M home the other day that has one. Seems to be alot more responsive then the MTA I have with an M&W governor. Just wondering about what other people thought. I don"t know if they are still in business or not. Have a wonderful day.

I bought a Rocket governor for a SMTA back in the early '90s from the guys in PA. It must have been a time when I had more money than brains. I think the cost was around $400. I don't recall that it was an improvement or affected performance.

As I remember, it was similar to stock but used laminated weights and Heim joints for the vertical linkage.

I see people on eBay paying $200 for used M&W governors. I have wondered if the Rocket people bought the M&W tooling when they ceased production. I have never seen the working parts of a M&W governor so I have nothing to go on.

I have dealt with both the M&W and new Rocket gov. and they are both on about the same performance level in my own opinion. However if you want the best after market gov. then look for a Thompson Rocket the performance is very noticeable.

I just put a thompson "rocket" gov. on my M,it is super responsive! The inside looks alot different than an m&w,it has 4 weights but a "none rivited look".Mine has a fat alum. colored shaft only looks alittle different from the stock IH one.

Well if ya like spending money then that is up to you . But i can get the same results from a stock one and ya will not gain one once of power more from the governor . Now if your old stock one is out of adjustment or the linkage is plum slap wore out and you replace with new then you will see and improvement BUT you take and fix what ya have and trick out the flyweights then guess what it will do the same for less.

Don't know what years they were sold but some of the M&W governors had 2 solid weights instead of the 4 lamenated weights. Some thompson governors had the same # on the weights as M&W 2 weight did and weight pins were held in the same way. If this picture works you may just be able to make out the 2 weights in this M&W advertisement, not dated.

If you can make these parts out, top thompson 2 weight, middle M&W 4 weight, last Rocket 4 weight thats saw its better days. Weights lock in with slots and no pins. That type governor was around before the rocket name and I think thompson made them, but not positive.

My cousin called Extra power last week and they said that they have been waiting on weights for over a year now and are not sure when they will get any in. I found the number from an old posting on here. Dennys carb shop in Fletcher, OH will rebuild your stock governor to stock or hop it up for pulling, but it can get costly.
