Im rebuilding the motor on my early farmall h.It is a complete rebuild pistons,rings,sleeves,rod and main bearings,etc. I was wondering what rebuild kit is the best for the money and which ones to stay away from. any help appreciated. thanks
 
i have ordered kits from this site, no problems, only thing i would recommend is have the machine shop that does your crankshaft get the main and rod bearings. (i have an extra set for the smaller journal m crankshaft).
 
Just got done with a 43 h complete overhaul like your talking. We had our machine shop order the kit for us. It was a red power kit. Everything was very nice and fit well and wasnt as expensive as most. The thing runs like a top now. Good luck and I hope this helps.
 
STOFF,there is 10 pages of kits for an H so you need serial # to get the right one.Tisco step head piston's is what I get but not saying there is not better sets out there. These kits with bearings list for around 740-760 with ups & cost about $ 600 depending which kit you need. We have about 20 kits out and have'nt heard any kick back.Buy your stuff locally if you can,call my cell and I'll talk to you about it. Good luck Gene
 
You can get a complete kit here on this forum with stepped head pistons up to SN 391357 for $438.60. Have your local auto machine shop to measure your crankshaft for wear and if it needs to be ground undersize or just polishing. Have them to supply the correct bearings. Have new cam bearings installed in the block after its dipped. Have them to redo the head. It may need new guides, magna-fluxed for cracks and some valves may be too thin to use. You may need all new valves and I would have new springs installed. Hal

In addition to what glennster said, I would have the machine shop get valves and valve springs if they are needed. In my experience it is hard to get the correct ones from this site. There are lots of variations on valve lengths and spring lengths.
