1066 rebuild

I have a 1066, that is my first diesel tractor ever. The head gasket is leaking oil on the right side, so I am going to pull it and replace gasket. I guess my question is it has 6400 hours, should I do rings and bearings as long as I have the head off. It does smoke a fair amount, but not oil smoke and it doesnt use an excessive amount of oil. I have heard about the sleeves corroding away on these, but mine does have coolant filter. Thanks in advance.

Are you sure its not dieselex leaking from the exhaust manifold? When the injectors get many hours on them and the tractor is run in cold weather and not fully warmed up all the fuel is not burned and it will mix with soot and run from the exhaust manifold down the side of the engine. This is called wetstacking. Parts for the 414 are fairlly cheap so if your going to overhaul install new sleeves and pistons. Putting new rings on woren pistons in woren sleeves is a waste of time on this engine.
