IH 300 utility vs. farmall H

Does anyone know if an engine from a ih 300 utility will fit in a farmall H. if it will, will i be able to use my H carb, manifold, and magneto, or will i need to get the ones off a 300 utility including the distributer. Also is the 300 utility and the farmall 300 engine exactly the same, how about the carb and distributer and such. Thanks..

Not to hard to put the utility engine in a H. Utility tractors don't use frame rails so a different front engine cover is used along with as I remember 6 attaching bolts that are 1/2 inch diameter. This front cover needs changed to row crop type along with the crankshaft pulley when engine is installed in a row crop. Row crop front engine cover uses all 3/8 bolts that screw into block. So the problem of 1/2 inch bolts in utility block compared to 3/8 holes in row crop cover needs addressed, not hard to do.
Utility may have a exhaust manifold that exits down instead of up in center. Also utility governor is set for more RPM than row crop. Most all other engine parts are the same as row crops. You would get the most power from a farmall 300, 350 manifold and a carb. and distributor from the utility or row crop. Your H parts will work though the Mag may not have the best timing for that engine. Your breather pipe that goes to air cleaner inlet pipe from valve cover on the 300(back of head on H) will need modified. Depending on which front engine cover you use the ignition drive bolt pattern may not match what you want to install there. Late bolt patterns match live hydraulic pumps and late drive housings if no pump is used. Early covers bolt patterns match about 90 percent of H tractor ignition drives.

Failed to put in other post that governor throttle arms are different 300 compared to H. They can be switched from governor to governor or whole governors switched. If you use a H carburetor use the throttle shaft and housing for the H and one for 300 if using 300 carburetor. Slight difference in the length on them. Another thing to address is the air intake pipe size and choke rod if using the 300 carburetor.
