Help with H

Have 2 questions that I need help with.
1. Which are closer to original decals, Mylar or vinyl?
2. Rebuilt carb. after a 2.5 year restore effort, started for the first time last night, runs great at idle, runs OK but not great wide open, the main fuel adjust screw makes no change when turned unless you turn it all the way in then it dies. Pulled carb. back off and checked and cleaned all passages, put back on and same problem, WHAT NOW?

Mylar
The main jet still has a bit of dirt in it, or the float level is too low. (most likely the jet) JimN

Hey,was hoping you would be the one to answer, It has a new kit and I pulled the needle back out and checked it and also bent the float up just a little.

The main jet is not the same as the load screw. The main is a fixed orifice that provides 80-90% of the fuel. The load screw adjusts this from none when all the way in, to 120% or so with it out 4 or 5 turns. Thus if it dies when all the way in, the main is probably plugged up either a flake in the jet itself, or in the passage. There is also a screen in the inlet to the carb which can be radically plugged up (but is less obvious) Jim

The mylar decals are more like the original.

The high speed idle, or load adjustment screw should be set at 3 full turns out and then left alone. You stated that if you turn it all the way in, the engine dies. This is normal because in effect, you have just shut off the flow of fuel. The only time that screw should be adjusted is if the engine misses or lacks power while running full throttle under a load. With the engine at a slow idle, adjusting that screw will make NO difference one way or the other.

The slow idle adjustment is a different story, it needs to be set 1 1/2 turns out initially, and then should be turned either in or out very slightly to give the smoothest idle.

When running the engine with wide open throttle open the main adjustment screw until the engine
smoothes out or it looks like its being overfueled from black smoke, then close it some.
That's how you enrich the fuel mixture on my garden tractor too. Here'a pic. Hal

Lots of excellant replys here. One thing I found on my H is that with everything else being good, if the idle screw is adjusted too lean the tractor will not run good at higher rpm.
