M idles poorly-diagnosed!

Several members of the forum suggested my problem might be a cracked manifold or faulty gaskets. Here is what I found when I removed the manifold. There is a dime sized hole thru the partition separating the exhaust from the intake side of the manifold. The engine was running on some gas and some exhaust. Ordered gaskets from RustyFarmall and I had a spare manifold, so I'm all set. Thanks to all.

Thanks for letting folks know what you found out. Lots of people don't tell what the outcome of a problem is. Provides answers & info for the next similar problem.

Funny, you should mention an EGR valve. An EGR valve that is not functioning properly will make a new EPA friendly engine smoke like a coal train running on steam.
