My Dad bought a 1949 W-4

Hi all,
My Dad saved a W4 before it got to the scrap pile. Someone on eBay had a carb off a W4 listed and said that it came off a W4 that is going to be scrapped, Dad emailed the man and said he wanted the W4 if he still had it. Dad got it for $300. The engine is loose, but one sleeve is bad, but we have a parts H engine that we can get the sleeves from. I think the W4 is a nice looking tractor.

yet another good find! are those rice tires on the back? got some real meaty tires and rims on that one !!
 
The rear tires are B.F Goodrich 16.9.26 8 ply tires. They look okay, but need new tubes and possibly reliners. The tires hold air for a short time.

A narrow tread F-20 or F-30 would be nice, my F-20 is very wide and does not fit between the trailer fenders, we need to pull it over the fenders, then it is on the trailer bed again.
 
Hey Andy,

Nice looking W-4 are they just 4 speeds or do they have a road gear? Also is that your old truck in the back gound there, What make and model is it?
 
The W4 has 5th gear. The truck is my Dad's, it is a 1937 Dodge. It used to be my Grandpa's. It is a nice old truck, needs the starter fixed and new tires.
 
My 1941 W-4 has always been on rubber as far as I know, but it was available on steel. There is a place for a bolt to be put in that will prevent 5th gear from being used with the steel. ..Iron
