anybody out there have any advice on how to get the garter spring back in a hydro-touch valve. I have tried and must be going about it all the wrong way. thanks tb.

Heh, heh, the Touch-Control valve garter spring. I remember that problem very well!

Yes, there's a special jig, shaped like a bullet, or nose cone, that you have to have to get the garter spring in. When I rebuilt the valves on my 340U I borrowed one from a guy who had a machinist make one up out of aluminum for him several years ago. It's impossible without it. That's not just my opinion, but also what the IH Blue Ribbon Touch Control manual states.

I'm sure you could make one from a hard wood dowel if you're handy with a lathe. I recall seeing a photo of one in a manual . . . I'll look for it tonight and scan you a copy.

thanks for the pic. I made a home made device with a welding nozzle, wrapped it up with electrical tape to get the correct diameter, slid that onto a socket, then slid assembly right into place. I never would of thought of this without your pic, again thanks for the help.
