Farmall H 12v conversion problem

My brother-in-law converted a Farmall H to 12v through a generator conversion. He has had trouble with it not wanting to start ever since. He was wondering if it is positive ground or negative ground? If there are any other common reasons other than swapping the the poles that could cause this problem, what are they?

Thanks

Ps I can"t open Bob"s diagram pictures.

Try this link, Bob got a different website a while back. If a generator it can be positive or negative, alternator must be negative ground. Some voltage regulators are designed for pos ground, will fail sooner if negative (not immediately). You need to polarize the generator, it should start. Wires to coil are reversed if changing from (+) to (-) ground, also to ammeter.
