Hello,

My '36 F-20 has gradually developed a loud howell in all gears. Had the rearend cover off and all looks quite good. Obviously need to look into the transmission. Can any one give some pointers as to what might cause the noise?
Thank you.

Tom,
How about 72 years of wear !!! Bearings and gears wore in a working "groove", SOMETIMES renewing bearings actually makes them noisier because then you have new alignments of worn parts to grind in to a match.

Pull the gas tank and transmission cover, then jackstand it and turn the wheels over by hand with somebody looking/listening. You can isolate both finals that way, and then the transmission. Good luck.

I've had over 20 F-20's over the years and never had one that didn't whine a little. The one's with 36 inch tires made the most noise.
