I have a delco 10 SI, and it used to charge by the one wire method, then it stopped working all of a sudden. Took it off and brought it to be checked turns out that it is fine. put it back on and the only way that i can get it charge is by grounding out the "R" terminal. then it pegs the amp meter right out... charges 14 volts. but if i shut it off then do it again it will not self excite i have to ground out that terminal for a second again. Do i have a bad ground to the tractor thats all i can thing of I have 3 other tractors set up like this and they all work fine, not sure whats up with this one though....

Thanks for the advice!!

If the ground was bad it would not charge when it finally does. The regulator is probably bad. Why not swap the regulator for a three wire setup and rock on. JimN
